Open Your Eyes… It’s Everywhere…

The demand for good digital signage content is only going to grow as move into the future.   Integrators are looking for ways to expand their service offerings and this a natural extension to the hardware that they are already selling.   Since content needs to be current and fresh, customers will be looking for content that can easily be updated by non-technical users without having to learn how to use complicated digital signage systems.   I see an increase in interactivity with users mobile devices as well to make the content even more engaging.

I was recently involved in a proposal for a chain of ice cream stores that operates nearly 200 locations in several states where that included incorporating their existing design/themes into electronic menu boards that also would feature space for daily specials or advertisements including video.  Pricing and images can be easily updated at anyone of the locations from any web browser by non-technical users.

Additionally,

since content requires constant updating this is a great way for integrators to stay in front of their clients on a regular basis,

so that when it comes time for a hardware refresh that integrator will be front of mind with that customer.

“Software as a Service” (SaaS), is now evolving the world of content creation from an expensive, highly-skilled, labor-intensive, custom-build, closed platform, project world… to an easy-to-use “app”, in the cloud, on anonymous open platforms that can be private-labeled (white-labeled) for distribution and dealer use.  The result is the DS integrator can now offer the total package of digital signage without having to invest in DS graphic design expertise.  They can simply sell low-cost apps or go more custom by outsourcing the project..  This leverages cost down and lowers the project investment to the DS end-user.  Lower content investment cost coupled with lower hardware/system cost now opens up the DS world to many more end-users.” John Wills

Digital Signage Content is transitioning as technology evolves. No longer are the slide presentations/PowerPoint being used.

More dynamic content is being created by connecting existing data sources to the signage platform.

This allows for information like calendar/scheduling, menu items/pricing, welcoming information, production matrix  to automatically populate a digital signage screen without manual entry. This keeps content fresh, current, accurate without someone tasked to be the signage content expert to update the screens. The future is now – and it is evolving where phones and tablets can interact with the screens – and vice versa. Beacons are now being installed in a range of locations which will trigger signage content directly to these devices. I am currently working on a unique project. The client and Almo are designing a solution that will allow the employees to interact with their customers with “instant feedback” being updated on the screen via tablets – very cool! The whole world of digital signage is still close to infancy and is constantly growing today – all tied to innovation. As the technology increases, costs reduced, and software and programming connect the hardware together – new solutions – many interactive are evolving. Helping to drive this is the entry of Google to signage. They are creating a wide range of solutions to run on their OS – and their R&D will both create solutions as well as inspire others.

“With almost every manufacturer having a 4K piece, I think the content will catch up and come down in pricing making it more affordable for signage applications. Sharp being one of the leading manufacturers for Pro Panels 70” and above they have released their new line of 4k Pro panels the PN-H701 and PN-H801 which are both 24/7 rated and display a full 4k Resolution.  They also have a there LC-70UC30U which is a great cost effective piece to help future proof installations that is exclusive to Almo.” Darren
